To see our patients the day they are sick.
To be on call for our patients at night.
To arrange specialty consultations within a week or the same day when necessary.
To take care of our patients in the hospital as well as in the office.
To make house calls on homebound patients.
To recognize that the anxiety that can accompany illness is as important to attend to as the condition itself.
To make the patient part of the conversation, to answer questions fully and explain clearly, to be kind.
In sum, to provide the highest standard of humane attention and diagnostic skill.
Dr. Jaime B Friedman and Dr. Carol B Sheckter met in medical school, did their residences and fellowships together at the University of Washington, married, and started Hawthorne Hills Internal Medicine in 1989. Located in Hawthorne Hills – close to Children’s Hospital – their private practice has become one of the most bustling in the city.
Drs. Friedman and Sheckter are deeply rooted in Seattle’s North End community but draw a substantial number of East Side patients from Woodinville to Kirkland, Bellevue to Issaquah. From Seattle’s West Side, their practice serves patients from as far north as Everett all the way south to Kent.
Hawthorne Hills Internal Medicine has been built almost entirely by word of mouth. Drs. Friedman and Sheckter take great pride in the close relationships they have with their patients that gives the office a comfortable air of warmth and good feeling. Hawthorne Internal Medicine is adult medicine serving patients of all ages, levels of income, occupations and interests. Drs. Friedman and Sheckter are especially proud of the large number of area nurses and physicians who choose Hawthorne Hills for their own medical care.
Hawthorne Hills Internal Medicine is an independent practice and intends to remain so. This means that Drs. Friedman and Sheckter can send patients to any medical or surgical specialist or radiology facility they choose without regard to the pressures that can influence those decisions in large multi-specialty groups or HMOs.
Dr. Friedman and Dr. Sheckter trained in Seattle and have decades of experience with the city’s best medical practitioners. They send patients to specialists they trust and discuss every patient’s case directly with consultants. Patients are admitted to Northwest Hospital but can be sent elsewhere for specialized procedures or surgeries under the care of the physicians they feel are most qualified.
